Dr. Vincenzo Gambino
Dr. Vincenzo Gambino was born in 1953 in Licata, Italy. He studied medicine at the University of Pavia in Italy. After graduating in 1981, he completed his internship and did his residency at the University hospital's Department of Otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat). In 1990, Dr. Gambino joined The Elliott Thomas Medical Group in New York City, where he began to focus on surgical hair loss treatment. In 1994, he opened his practice in Milan, pioneering advanced American techniques in Italy.
Dr. Gambino's distinguished career is lauded by the international medical community. He is a past president and on the governing board of The Italian Society for Hair Restoration and is on the Board of Governors of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. He is currently serving a three year term as president of S.I.Tri. (Società Italiana di Tricologia [Italian Society of Tricology]) In 1998, he was nominated to form guidelines on hair transplantation for the European Board of the International Academy of Cosmetic Dermatology, of which he is a member. He currently heads the hair restoration division of the S.I.E.S. (Società Italiana di Medicina e Chirurgia Estetica [Italian Society of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery]). Dr. Gambino is a professor at the University of Florence teaching the Surgical Section of the Masters Program Scienze Ticologiche Mediche e Chirugiche. He wrote the hair transplantation section of the medical text book, Medicina e Chirurgia Estetica del Viso e del Collo (Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery of the Face and Neck) and the pubic hair transplantation section of the medical text book Medicina e Chirurgia Estetica del Corpo ( Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery of the Body), both produced by S.I.E.S. and published by Elsevier Masson. He was the first in Italy to treat female pubic alopecia with monograft transplantation. He also piloted the first chest-hair-to-head transplant in Italy on a patient lacking donor head hair. Various press releases in Italy and abroad have recognized Dr. Gambino's expertise.
Hair restoration for men and women remains Dr. Gambino's only focus. When treating his patients, Dr. Gambino considers the individualized nature of hair loss as well as patients' genetics, age, and expectations to arrive at the best possible treatment for their hair problem.
